Alaska's Best Trout Fishing For 2008

When I hear someone say that “Alaska has some excellent trout fishing”, I relate this to a statement like “Fish taste better fresh then frozen”. If you’re not a believer like I am, try wetting a fly in one of the many lakes, rivers and streams we mention here and see for yourself.

While salmon and halibut fishing receive the majority of the attention, Alaska doesn't surrender its crown to any other state when it comes to variety, quality and year-round trout fishing opportunities. We agree that the salmon and halibut fishing here is legendary but this should not make light on the high quality of trout fishing Alaska has to offer.

For 2008, trout fishing here is expected to be even better then earlier years thanks to the development of additional fishing opportunities for kids, access areas for handicapped anglers and an ever popular catch and release program on the more heavily fished trophy trout waters in the state. State hatcheries have been stocking local lakes and streams within the cities for years and their efforts are really proving to be popular.

As good as the local fishing scene is, a fly out fishing trip is still where you experience the full impact that Alaska has to offer to the trout angler. Just a short flight can place you in some remote lakes or streams where you will quickly realize you’re not in Kansas anymore.

We are preparing to publish some newly revised intense information filled pages with specific photos, maps and charts on how and where you can find the best fishing in Alaska for trophy rainbows, steelhead, lake trout, arctic char, grayling, pike and more. We will be adding links to these pages from this page so you might want to bookmark it now and then return often as these pages will be added throughout the year on a frequent basis.
