Trout Fishing Alaska: “Alaska Fishing 2012

Alaska has many lakes, rivers and streams with monster trophy trout lurking below the surface, yet, few fishermen have tapped into the great trout fishing Alaska has to offer or even seem aware of the fact that Alaska has a reputation for truly giant sized rainbow trout. Other species of fish, typically salmon and halibut, dominate the fishing scene here making trout fishing that much more rewarding of an experience for those seeking to find some solitude during their Alaska fishing adventures.

This site highlights the experiences of our family’s trout fishing exploits as we take our kids fishing around Alaska in search of the best trout and char fishing available in the Last Frontier state. From time to time, we will be talking to other anglers throughout Alaska asking for their viewpoints of the varied fishing Alaska has to offer. If you wish to share your opinions on this subject, just drop us a line and we will add your stories, comments or concerns to the site for all to read.

The Best in Alaska Rainbow Trout Fishing.

Nice Rainbow TroutTrout fishing on the Kenai Peninsula has really picked up the past couple of years. Aside from the tremendous trophy trout in the Kenai River, many of the lakes in the Swanson River drainage are really doing well. Forest Lakes, Dolly Varden Lake, Rainbow Lake are all great spring and summer fisheries and the Swanson River is a year round trout fishing opportunity that produces pretty nice catches.

Along the Sterling Highway, Watson Lake, Kelly Peterson Lakes, Jean Lake and Jerome Lake all offer some really decent roadside angling for rainbow trout and Dolly Varden too.

And then there is the lakes along the 17 mile Skilak Loop road that have good fishing in them but few anglers seem to be interested. I have always considered this an oversight from all the excitement surrounding the salmon fishing in the area.
